The Institute for Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), is one of Europe's leading modern music schools. They’ve been delivering cutting-edge courses to students of contemporary music for over twenty five years.
Combining the best teaching staff and state-of-the-art technology, they offer a range of professional courses including a Masters degree, and Bachelors degrees in Popular Music Performance, Creative Musicianship and Songwriting.
Looking to further expand their facilities, the ICMP contacted West London Security’s construction team and tasked them with refurbishing an existing floor of small offices into a brand new teaching area complete with a keyboard lab, tech room and a lecture theatre.
The keyboard lab and tech room required bespoke desks with multiple power and data sources, as well as state-of-the-art soundproofing on the walls and windows. New doors, ceilings and floors were also required throughout the facility.
Before construction could begin, all the old ceilings, partition walls and floors had to be stripped out and removed. The old cabling, which had been sunk into the floor, also had to be cleared, and the holes filled. West London Security quickly and efficiently removed the waste material so that work could begin as soon as possible.
The new classrooms were re-cabled with both power and data cables and new, discrete trunking added to house them. Each of the three teaching rooms were soundproofed with double skin partitioning and acoustically sealed so that musicians in any of the rooms will not disturb other lessons running simultaneously.
Along with the three main teaching rooms, the ICMP also required an audition room, and an old office kitchen was converted into another small classroom. The main doors were also replaced and the main corridor refurbished in order to create a bright and modern feel throughout a facility where the musicians of tomorrow will be taught using the very latest technology.
West London Security were able to deliver all of this, plus new lighting, ceiling-mounted speakers and a cutting edge “teaching cam” in the keyboard lab which allows students to see what their teacher is playing on their own computer screens via a camera set in the ceiling. The new teaching rooms are bright, spacious and modern
All the conversion and classroom fit out, including redecorating, was completed to an impeccable standard in just six weeks; two weeks less than it would usually have taken. ICMP’s Head of Facilities, Keith Poles said, “As always, I was completely satisfied with the quality of West London Security’s work. The new facilities look great, sound great and will no doubt prove an excellent asset to the college.”
